Our sister company, Sustainable Aquatics is the worlds larges indoor hatchery for marine ornamentals. Breeding hundreds of varieties of reef fish required us to carefully recreate the nutrition systems found in nature.
Larvae which have advanced from live feed to dry feed, or like salmon that start out with dry feeds, still need several essential nutrients that are largely missing in commercial feeds.
Virtually, all commercial dry feeds have been “cooked” in extruders and many of the nutrients have been denatured. We also have found that commercial feeds are missing critical ingredients including taurine, selenium and key vitamins and fats.
We also observed all commercial hatchery diets lack the most powerful cell resident anti-oxidant found in nature, astaxanthin.
Astaxanthin is well "known " in the salmon and char industries who add astaxanthin derived from super-critical carbon dioxide extraction from algae or synthetic astaxanthin derived from petrochemical feedstocks or from yeast as a coloring agent. These products have very low bioavailability and in the case of synthetic are a different isomer altogether. These products tint flesh orange but have virtually no impact on broodstock productivity, growth/survival rates, uniformity and resistance to disease.
We developed a completely novel process for making astaxanthin naturally bioavailable and incorporated these insights into two products;
Amplifeed(tm) Topcoat Astaxanthin supplement, designed to be coated onto a hatchery's preferred dry feed diet.
We also offer our Hatchery Diet, our complete astaxanthin enriched dry feed containing all of the micro-nutrients needed enhance grow-out and broodstock fecundity.
